In 1931, gambling was legal again and the hotel and casino was back up and running under the name, Sal Sagev, which is Las Vegas spelled backwards. It wasn't until 1955 that the hotel and casino changed its name to Golden Gate and in 1974 the official name became the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino.
It wasn't until somewhat recent years that the property was renovated. First small renovations took place in 2005 and then 2012 came major renovations. The $12 million renovations included expanding the hotel tower, adding casino floor space for additional gaming, and a high limit gaming area.
Today, the casino is owned by Derek and Greg Stevens who own and operate an investment company, Desert Rock Enterprises.
This 122-room hotel and casino is one of the more unique properties you can find downtown. Its exact location on the Fremont Street Experience is directly across from The Plaza Hotel & Casino on the Main Street side, adjacent to the Golden Nugget Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and across from Binion's Gambling Hall on Fremont Street.
Like most Downtown Las Vegas casinos, theparking options are limited and few and far between. There is no parking structure associated with Golden Gate so you will have to find a nearby surface lot, which typically costs around $10-$15. There is also a parking structure at the nearby Golden Nugget. The hotel advertises free valet parking as well but it is not clear if you need to be a guest of the hotel or not, however, that is likely the case.

The casino floor at Golden Gate is very small and loud. It isvery much a party inside, with go-go dancers on the top of tables behind the dealers, a full bar directly next to the table games and a lot of locals who stop by just to grab a drink.
The floor has a small amount of table game options including Blackjack, Craps, Let It Ride, Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. There are other notable table games missing such as Baccarat. Overall, the floor is decent and you can easily find $5 games running. It would not be our first choice to gamble at due to the loud atmosphere and mediocre dealers.
The casino is owned by the same company as The D so the player rewards program is the same for both casinos.
